Grovedale College Year 9 Camp

On the 19th of February Grovedale College year 9 students and teachers arrived at The Summit eager to get started into activities. But before they could, the students were introduced to their coaches Mim, Calarnee, Enis, Ant, Spinks and Franzie. At The Summit we have something called the Five Keys that help make a camp go from good to great.

These keys are:

Shortly after we headed into the park where each group was set through an initiative during this, they learned our goal-setting strategy called Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch that they would use for the rest of camp. The students then excitedly moved into their first activities which were Rock Sall, Leap of Faith, Snowy River Challenge, Giant Swing, Laser Skirmish and Summit Window. At the end of the first day, they needed to have a team name to unify as well as identify their tribes from the others

Starting the second day Mim talked to the group about setting a morning intention and having a plan for the day so that everything out of their control doesn’t control them. After, Spinks ran a morning game of Jockeys with everyone before we participated in our activities. Day two of camp was a busy day completing three activities all before lunch. After some chicken tender wraps for lunch, everyone swiftly headed down to the BBQ shelter for some tug of war in their tribes. The tug of war was a decider of who went first in the Monster Course. With the course, all the students believed the winner was the team with the fastest time but the truth is, it’s the team with the most improvement time which means that they had to run the course twice.

Sadly, the final day of camp came too quickly and Calarnee was the one this time that talked to everyone about the power of gratitude and to be thankful for what we have instead of what we want. Then we completed our final two rotations of activities before jumping on the busses and rolling out of The Summit. However, in our last activity, we needed to vote for someone in the group who we believed showed the values of The Summit the most this person would then be known as the Values winner.
