Maribyrnong College Year 10 Camp

On a sunny Monday afternoon, we welcomed Maribyrnong College back to the summit with brand new year 10’s ready to embrace the journey ahead. Meeting up in the Blue Room, they met Spinks and Taylor, the coaches who would guide them for the next 2.5 days. To kick off their adventure, they played an energizing game of ‘Clap Tennis’ before venturing to the park, igniting a spirit of competition and camaraderie.

The green and yellow teams embarked on two exciting initiatives centered around treasure and tiles. Determined, the yellow team completed the Treasure Challenge with remarkable speed, while the green team triumphed in the Tiles Challenge. A highlight of the day emerged as Laser Skirmish, fostering joy and teamwork. From that point, the teams adopted their spirited names: the “Canary Cartel” for the yellow team and “Green FN” for the green team. After an exhilarating day, they enjoyed some much-deserved free time to recharge.

Day 2 commenced with an intention-setting session. I allowed each participant to identify a word that would inspire them throughout the day. I then provided them with a pen and a piece of tape to wear around their wrists as a meaningful reminder of their intentions.

The day continued with three exciting rotations, including the final challenges of Laser Skirmish and the Rock Wall. The Green FN amassed an impressive 29 points out of 13, while the Canary Cartel shone brightly with a score of 38, propelled by the outstanding performance of a member named Cake.

In the following rotations, they tackled the Giant Swing and the Bush Challenge, where both teams significantly improved their times by over 15 minutes. The Green FN enhanced their time by 15 minutes and 39 seconds, while the Canary Cartel achieved an incredible improvement of 17 minutes and 58 seconds.

Both teams faced challenges that tested their teamwork and resilience during the Giant Swing activity. After lunch, they prepared for the epic Obstacle Mayhem Challenge ahead. After changing and heading down to  the BBQ shelter, they engaged in a thrilling head-to-head monkey bars competition, where the green team emerged as champions.

Next, the Obstacle Mayhem Challenge required each team to carry a tyre between two people, totaling six tyres. They worked together, following coach Taylor and Spinks around the course. Upon completing their first lap, they learned about a second lap, emphasizing that resilience is key—not just speed, but the ability to rise in the face of adversity. Each team set their target and super stretch goals before embarking on their second lap.

The Green FN reached their stretch goal of 35 minutes, improving their total time by an astonishing 17 and 42 seconds. The Canary Cartel also excelled, achieving their goal of 35 minutes in just 32 and 35 seconds, reflecting an overall improvement of 25 minutes.

After a demanding day, they rejuvenated by rinsing off in the lake, taking showers, enjoying dinner, and embracing restful sleep. On the final day, they completed two more rotations, beginning with a gratitude session that fostered a positive atmosphere. They formed a circle, opened the GMIC box, and shared uplifting affirmations.

The last rotations featured the Sky Bridge and Jump Free zone. The Sky Bridge spanned 84 steps, leading to a daring 2.5-meter bungee jump that challenged participants to Leap of Faith. All teams rose to the occasion and pushed their limits to the end, culminating in an exciting lunchtime announcement. The Values winners were revealed, chosen by their peers for demonstrating remarkable resilience and commitment to themselves and their team, genuinely embodying the Five Keys of The Summit.

These keys are:

On behalf of the summit and myself and Taylor we would like to say thanks for joining in the fun and playing all in, all the best for the rest of the year!
