On the 17th of March Northside Christian College arrived to The Summit accompanied by their teachers. After meeting in the Stadium and being introduced to their coaching team consisting of Calarnee, Chris, Taylor, Sam and later Tim students learned about our Five Keys which we believe take any camp from good to great.
These keys are:
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”
After this student met at the Barbeque shelter and learned about a goal-setting strategy that breaks down any activities into three manageable steps TARGET, STRETCH AND SUPER STRETCH. Then it was time for everyone to embark on their first activity at camp, consisting of Bag Blitz where students climb a tower and jumping out onto a giant punching bag to see how long they could hold on for before getting lowered to the ground. Bush Challenge which saw teams working together in a timed team challenge of going up a mud wall, climbing out of a foam pit, balancing on a wobbly wire, revealing memory tins and completing a giant puzzle, Tash’s Ladder; students testing their limits and climbing the runs on the ladder on top of our small tower and Scavenger Hunt which saw students running around completing challenges to gain as many points as possible. After program students enjoyed a game night ran by the teachers.
At the beginning of the second day of camp Cal spoke to all students about setting an intention for the day, making a clear plan for how we want to show up for ourselves and our team for that day. We then went down the park to play a game of Crain, Tiger, Egg before going into our activities. After morning tea we swapped our rotations of activities and started Rock Wall, which saw students pushing themselves to climb above the overhang and tire walls, Orienteering where students test their mapping skills and find as many points as possible followed by a riddle before receiving their next spot to find, Flying Fox which saw students flying through the air enjoying the view and the moments and Inflatable City where students got to be a kid again playing human foosball and participating in our adrenaline rush relay race. After lunch students embarked on our famous Monster Course. Students believed that the winner was the team that got back first so they ran as fast as they could and got as muddy as they possibly could. Once everyone finished, we spoke to everyone about the fact that we only ever compete against the person we were yesterday, and that the winner of the course is ACTUALLY the team that improves the most between their first lap time and their second lap time. After running the same course again students demonstrated great levels of resilience and determination and finished the course TWICE.
After having showers students enjoyed a disco.
Starting the final day at camp Cal spoke to all the students about gratitude and appreciating the little and big things in everyday life. After playing a game of Evolution and finally answering the long-lasting question of “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” Students started their final two activities at camp. On our final activity students voted for a tribe member that they believe represented our Five Keys and then later the member voted by their tribe members was announced as the Values winner for 2025.
On behalf of The Summit and coaching team we would like to say a massive thank you to all Northside Christian College students and teachers for playing all in and helping to create three days full of fun and we wish you all the best for the year ahead.
All the results for camp are present in the table below.
