Boolarra PS Year 3 to 6 Camp Blog
On the 30th of October, the students from both Boolarra and Yinnar South Primary School arrived at The Summit to start their school camp. They were welcomed with open arms by their extraordinary coaches Mim and Adam. The students were introduced to The Summit’s values, the Five Keys which are Have Fun, Play All In, Make Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If. These keys help the students make the most of their camp and make it an epic one.
The students then started playing a game of 'Where is George', and then the students received some information on how everyone can stay safe physically and mentally. The goal-setting strategy Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch helped them during the activities they would be participating in during the next three days. These activities are High Wire, Flying Fox, Rock Wall, Laser Skirmish, Snowy River Challenge, Bush and Initiative Challenge. By the end of the first day of camp, all groups had a team that would have chosen a team name that they would be called for the rest of camp.
Starting the second day of camp bright and early for a big day ahead of them. Adam inspired the students about the power of setting a morning intention and getting the students to encourage each other more during the day. After making our way down to the stage we played a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors Evolution. This was then followed by 3 rotations of activities before lunch. After the delicious meatball raps, we had another rotation before the epic Monster Course. For the mud run the teams merged into one, to show that being a united team is better than competing. However, there was another twist about the Monster Course, we learnt that the mud run was about resilience and perseverance as we all were surprised by a second lap after we finished our first. The goal of the course was to now improve on the second lap and beat the first lap's time.
Sadly, the final day of camp came too soon, this time Mim was inspiring everyone on gratitude and how we should take time to remember the things we can be grateful for. This was then followed by Mim also running a game of Pirates. Then we had our two final activities of camp. In our last activity, we reflected on the camp and picked a Values winner from our groups. Finally, at the end of camp, the results were read out and we had to say goodbye to not only our coaches before getting on the bus.
