Cire Community School - Lilydale Camp Blog
It was awesome to be able to introduce The Summit to the amazing staff and students from Cire Community School - Lilydale. They were a remarkably diverse group of humans and the three days they were here were an experience we will struggle to forget. Zoe and I dragged everyone into the Blue Room to introduce ourselves and our Five Keys of Have Fun, Play All In, Make Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If, before making our way into the park, playing a couple of games, showing everyone our harnesses and how to set themselves Targets, Stretches and Super Stretches, our goal-setting technique and getting into our first couple of activities.
We were looking forward to more of a team experience having such a small number of students, and the camaraderie was instant. We started Monday off with our Tash’s Ladder and Bush Challenge experience, won by the Stingrays with a time of 22 minutes 15 seconds and the Bald Spots timed 23 minutes 42 seconds. It was obvious after the first few activities that some of the students were experts in teamwork.
Tuesday morning was kicked off with a chat about things we can say to improve the day of those around us as well as ourselves. It was a slow start to the day with a lot of emotion and some work for Adam and Andi, but they rose to it.
We then went down and had a go at the Flying Fox and Orienteering, which Mark seemed to take more seriously than most other students, before giving Highwire a go before lunch. At lunch, it was obvious the group needed a bit of down time in the Bungalows, so we started the afternoon off a bit slower with a quick game of Laser Skirmish before our epic peak of the camp, The Monster Course.
Two laps around an epic group of tasks and challenges, mud, tyres, ball pits, balance beams and more and more mud, which was more fun than anyone expected. Tay and Zac dominated the course, getting behind everyone and championing the tyres they had to carry as well. The course was won by Bald Spots, with an improvement time of 4 mins 25 seconds to the Stingrays 3 minutes 50 seconds.
Thursday night was a bit quieter, and Friday bought our final two activities. We walked the plank up at Leap of Faith, with Tay “loving” all the attention and Adam stepping WAY out of his comfort zone, while also tackling the Rock Wall, an epic climb up the outside of our small tower.
We then asked everyone to vote on who they thought gave everything they could over the whole camp to be our Values winners or the persons that best represented the Five Key values The Summit holds. Tyson and Abbie were runaway winners with all their efforts getting them the accolades they deserve.
A massive thank you to Mark, Adam, Tay, Zac, Andi and all the students and teachers from Cire Community School for all the effort they put in to make this camp as amazing as it was. Zoe and I can't wait to see you back again very soon.
