Courtenay Gardens PS Year 4 Camp Blog
We were so excited to see the buses from Courtenay Gardens PS roll through the gates of The Summit on a cloudy but very exciting Monday morning, we were hopping and jumping around preparing for what would be an amazing first week of term four with our new little legends. The energy and enthusiasm from all the students were almost out of control and we loved it. The other coaches and I gathered in the Stadium with them to introduce ourselves and our Five Keys of Have Fun, Play All In, Make Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If, before playing a couple of games, showing everyone our harnesses and how to set themselves Targets, Stretches and Super Stretches (our goal-setting technique), and getting into our first round of activities.
Tash’s Ladder and the Flying Fox were the instant highlights, the Inflatable City and Laser Skirmish were epic, and the Rockwall was not what anyone expected. After our first rotation, it was time to sit down and create a Tribe Identity for each group. The imagination and excitement were very obvious from the flags and chants created.
Towards the end of the first day, each group was asked to come up with a name for themselves that was agreed upon by all, and these are the names they came up with;
Grp 1 - CR7
Grp 2 - Soccer Slay
Grp 3 - The Legends
Grp 4 - King Bob The Frog
Grp 5 - Ze Pickled Summinators
After an evening of fun and staying up far too late, Tuesday was kicked off with a morning Intentions chat from Kid President before getting straight into the next rounds of activities. The afternoon was as much fun as the morning, but we don’t think anyone was as proud of themselves as Asher was when he conquered our hardest level of the Rockwall! Dreads are now so much cooler than they were at the start of camp!
Thursday afternoon we also embarked on our epic Monster Course, a wet and dirty run around the grounds of The Summit involving tyres, charades, dirt, cargo nets, holey buckets, water, a ball pit and a whole lot of fun! The course was scored using each team's improvement time from the first lap to the surprise second lap, with everyone doing amazingly, but being dominated by both The Legends and King Bob the Frog!
Friday started with another chat about gratitude in the form of another session from one of the funniest and cleverest 10-year-olds to ever film videos before we completed our round of activities. We then played an all-in game of Scavenger Hunt, a run around the park finding stuff and completing challenges for points, and if we didn’t have a time limit, I reckon CR7 would still be running around!
We then asked each of the kids to vote on a Values winner, or the person in their group they felt used our Five Keys the best to make camp a rewarding experience for not only themselves but their whole team. The winners are listed below with all the times for each of the recordable activities. We gathered at the BBQ shelter for the last time to say our thank yous to all the people involved in making this camp epic before reading out the winners of the various activities and rewarding our Values Winners with a ride on our WW2 ARMY TANK!
Thank you so much to Lauren, the parents, Teachers and students of Courtenay Gardens Primary School for an awesome week. You were all so incredibly dedicated to ensuring your camp was an amazing experience. We at The Summit can’t wait to have you back again soon.
