Deepdene Primary School Blog
On Tuesday afternoon, the buses full of Deepdene students and staff rolled through to the gates of The Summit. Eager to get started, they all made their way up to their accommodation in the Tent Village.
They were welcomed by The Summit coaches led by their team leader Steph (SPAG), the Five Keys were shared with the students, as they are the ingredients for a great camp. As the students were shown to the stage, where we went straight into initiatives after being shown how to put on a helmet and harness and told about Target, Stretch, Super Stretch. Two rotations were run to finish the day off, then they had free time until dinner at six.
Day 2: We started the day with breakfast, GMICs and then morning intentions with kid presidents ’20 things we should say more often. The students then completed a repeat after an exercise called ‘Big Star, Little Star’. After 4 massive rotations and lunch, the tribes completed large group challah where the tribe went head-to-head in the events: shoe Bowling and Tug of War and there were so many points to hand out. The group finished the day off with free time then dinner.
Day 3: After breakfast, we read out some more GMICs, set our morning intentions and played an epic game of Pirates to get our bodies moving. Two rotations later and it was lunchtime, the students' excitement started to grow as they were about to do tribe challenges to determine their spot in the Monster Course! The groups smashed the course not only once, but twice, all teams improved by at least 4 mins, well done!
Day 4 (last day): Students had their final breakfast and we read out heaps of GMICs, we set a quick intention and then we dove into some gratitude. There was so much gratitude going around as the students shared what made them happy. We then smashed out two new rotations and then we got the tribes and the teachers to vote for our values winners. The teacher voted for Chloe. As a surprise, she got a hot lap in our army tank!
