Ilim College - Doveton Yr 5 - 12 Camp Blog

The Summit recently welcomed Ilim College's year 5-12s through our gates for an epic 3-day camp, with ten activities, a massive mud run, and more!

Day one began as the teachers and students got to know the camp coaches; Sam, Spinks, the other Sam, Taylor and Franziska, with an introduction, a quick explanation of the Five Keys (Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don't Go Home Wondering 'What if?') and then a group game of 50 Up. After this, everyone gathered on the stage to be shown the importance and safety of harnesses and helmets, thanks to the demonstration by Taylor and Fran, which was followed by Spinks showing everyone how a simple goal-setting strategy called Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch can still be very effective when used. Now it was time for activities, getting the first two of camp in before dinner. Each group headed to their numbered spots (1 for The Lion Dust, 2 for Sigma Alfa Wolfs, 3 for No Fear Achievers, and 4 for League of Legends) and were picked up by their respective coach before heading to their first camp activity. Due to the differences in year levels, some groups had the opportunity to do activities, and others didn't. As a result, day one included Flying Fox with Spinks and Fran, Laser Skirmish with Sam, Snowy River Challenge with Taylor, and Tash's Ladder with Sam Fish. After all this, it was time to head up to accommodation, to get ready for dinner before resting up for the next day.

Day two rolled in and how the day would go was up to the students of Ilim College, as it was up to them to set an intention for the day, a goal of either who they'd like to be, or what they'd want to achieve, regardless of what's outside of their control. After this intentions session run by Spinks, it was straight into activity rotations. The first two continued the previous set but with the Summit Window instead of Tash's, leaving one rotation before lunch as part of the new set. Then it was a short lunch break, with enough time for prayer and getting changed into clothes for the Monster Course, and then it was go time. Before beginning the Monster Course, one more rotation (part of the set that contained Spinks with Highwire, Sam with Cave, Taylor with Inflatable City, and Sam Fish with Giant Swing)

.

The first lap of the run saw all four teams give it their all, helping everyone cross the finish line together. Little did they know that they would be going for a round two. This course was all about resilience, who you show up as when you're pushed to your limit and someone asks more of you. And everyone gained a better time on their second lap than the first, due to how every team rose against the challenge. After this, everyone had well-deserved showers before dinner.

The final day of camp began with a gratitude session run by Sam, where the importance of recognizing what we already have in our lives and taking time to be grateful for it was highlighted. After this, everyone gathered down to the BBQ shelter for a game of Jockeys, run by Fran, before the final two rotations of camp. These two final rotations consisted of the activities from later day two, but with Leap of Faith where Highwire had been, and after a final rushed finish of these activities, it was time for lunch and results, and some well-deserved thank you's for everyone involved in making such an epic camp possible.

Not all results were able to be given during this time, so to make sure everyone is acknowledged for their amazing effort in this camp and the activities involved, these were all recorded results for:
