McClelland College Camp Two Blog

On Wednesday, June 1st, The Summit was blessed with an amazing group of students from McClelland College part two! Sarah, Spinks, Sophie, Mim, Sam and Rohan would all love to extend their appreciation and thank you to every single student who attended the camp, getting to know you over the three days and watching you all blossom was truly a blessing. From the very beginning, we just knew we were about to have a wicked camp! Well done to everyone for:

1. Having All the Fun.

2. Playing All In.

3. Making Lots of Mistakes.

4. Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable.

5. Don't Go Home Wondering What-If.

It was so clear that each and every one of you took these keys on board, you all gave every activity your absolute best! On so many occasions, you were asked to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and you always rose above the task, all of our coaches were blown away by everyone getting comfortable being uncomfortable and playing all in. it all started with your initiatives! whether you played Half Pipe, Tiles, Spiders Web, Go Go Stop, J Bomb or S Puzzle what a wonderful way it was to kick start an epic adventure. Then it was onto our activities!

The first afternoon at camp saw the groups experiencing one activity out of the following: Rock Wall, Highwire, Snake and Nails, Snowy River Challenge, Scavenger Hunt or Orienteering! At the end of your first day at camp you would have named your groups and gotten a feel for how your activities will work whilst focusing on only two keys: “have fun” and “play all in” (which you definitely all did, well done!) our groups were named:

1. Mud Gang

2. The Rats

3. The Snags

4. Mickey Mouse Club House

5. Friendasaurus

6. Flaming Hot Cheetos

As another day of epic fun approached as did new activities and our incredible mud run! Everyone was challenged to push themselves out of their comfort zones at least once throughout the day. Highwire challenged us in the air, it was one of the higher activities you all got to experience and there were so many amazing super stretches being knocked out of the park and an incredible amount of people conquering their fears and getting comfortable being uncomfortable! Snake and Nails challenged you on the ground and it was a little more focused on mental fears like walking on a nail board or getting the epic opportunity to hang out with Mitch, our resident python. There were so many amazing super stretches here too, just like Highwire! Orienteering had you all running around camp like mad chickens! It was all about how well you could handle a fast pace activity in small groups, and let me say you all smashed it out of the park! Scavenger Hunt really challenged our “play all in” key and the coaches were blown away with how hard you all worked and how incredibly you came together as groups to achieve the little activities in Scavenger Hunt! Last but certainly not least, Snowy River Challenge had each group lifting people over walls, getting people through the wombat hole and going over the water. Our coaches were so impressed by the times you all achieved in the obstacle race, there was so much teamwork happening and the race to the end was intense! Well done to all our teams, every single one of you crushed all the activities and should be immensely proud of yourselves.

Before we knew it, it was then time to tackle our epic mud run! Not only did we do it once but we did it TWICE! Outstanding leadership skills and determination were presented by everyone, our coaches are so proud of you all for leaving everything out on the field because that’s what it was all about right? Unleashing your greatness and knowing/deciding who you want to be and how you want to show up when things get hard. And remember the winners were the team who had the biggest improvement time! So again, well done to those of you who brought a wicked ‘go get it’ attitude, you all smashed it! We hope you enjoyed your warm showers and spaghetti, you deserve it!

To finish camp off, on the last day you experienced the last two activities you had not done before. On so many occasions we saw students crush activities and complete things they didn’t think they were capable of doing. We cannot thank you enough for embarking on this journey with us at the summit and pushing yourselves outside of your comfort zones. Sarah, Spinks, Mim, Sophie, Sam and Rohan wish you all the best for your years ahead, you’ll crush whatever you end up doing!

And then we shared with you the reward winners! Remember, these students were who you believed stuck to the Five Keys and really did well during your three days with us - after we shared these with you we all got to watch them take a hot lap in our world war 2 army tank and unfortunately then it was time to say goodbye…
