Montmorency SC Year 9 Camp Blog
On October 30th, a remarkable group from Montmorency Secondary College arrived at The Summit, ready for an epic 3-day adventure designed to test their physical and mental limits. From the start, they met their seven coaches: Logan, Zoe, Calarnee, Timmy, Taylor, Haylea and Franziska, who guided them through each experience. Right away, they were introduced to The Summit’s Five Keys, which would take camp from good to truly GREAT:
Have Fun
Play All In
Make Lots of Mistakes
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”
Goal-setting then became the focus, helping everyone maximize each activity, especially when facing something nerve-wracking. The three-goal types were:
TARGET: Something they knew they could do comfortably.
STRETCH: Something they believed they could achieve but weren’t totally sure.
SUPER-STRETCH: Something that felt impossible but was still doable.
The unique thing about The Summit is that each activity appears daunting at first, but every challenge is achievable if they face their fears head-on.
With the groundwork laid, they jumped into an energetic game of "50 Up," and then split into tribes to tackle their first two activities. The next days included:
Giant Swing: Releasing fears and embracing trust.
Orienteering: Competing to get the best score as a team navigating throughout the land.
Tash’s Ladder: Climbing and leaning over from a tower’s peak.
The Cave: Navigating pitch-black tunnels to confront the fear of the unknown.
Leap of Faith: Jumping into uncertainty and relying on their inner courage.
Inflatables: Pure fun, letting loose between challenges.
Snake and Nails: Walking barefoot over nails and facing Hercules the black-headed python.
The evening wrapped up with a chocolate mousse fight and a game of Minute-to-Win-It!
Day 2 kicked off with Logan’s morning talk, encouraging everyone to decide who they wanted to be that day – supportive, brave, or funny, for example. "You don’t attract what you want; you attract what you are," he reminded them. Energized, they played “Jockeys,” and then jumped into a full morning of activities. After lunch, they took on the Monster Course, a mud-filled obstacle run requiring teamwork, resilience, and a repeat lap for an extra challenge. Congratulations to everyone who discovered new levels of strength and determination!
At the end of day 2, we all gathered in the lodge to explore personal beliefs – those that hold them back versus those that uplift them. After reflection, each person broke through a wooden board. What an experience!
Day 3 began with breakfast and a gratitude session with Logan, emphasizing that “Gratitude affects your attitude, and in turn, your altitude.” Afterwards, they played a big game of evolution before completing the final activities of camp. The camp ended on a high as each team voted for the person who best embodied the Five Keys.
Congratulations to Amelia, Wes, Miller, Mathew, Hiroki, Zoe K and Lenny for standing out as values champions! To top it off, these Values winners got a legendary Summit medal.
Thank you Montmorency Secondary College, for giving it your all and making this camp unforgettable. Keep unleashing your greatness!
