Mount Alexander College Year 7 Camp Blog
It was a rainy day on the 29th of March when all you students and teachers from Mount Alexander College rocked up to The Summit. From the looks on your faces, you were excited about a wicked camp, and boy was it delivered.
Day 1 began with being introduced to The Summit coaches who were Yves, Lina, Emily, Sarah, Steph, Adam, and Logan. Next, you became familiar with what we are all about with a promo video and our Five Keys: Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots Of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If.
The excitement to get stuck into the activities was overflowing so with no further ado you all started with playing a game of 50 Up. We then got split into our groups and got straight into the 2 activities for the day. Activities throughout the whole camp experience at The Summit included Giant Swing, testing what it will take to let go of our fear and trust the process, letting go of “what if…” Abseil, feeling like the main character of Mission Impossible, challenging our ability to trust in ourselves. Snowy River challenge, the ultimate test of teamwork and support involving a race through 5 obstacles as fast as possible to beat the opposing team's time. Rock Wall, is the ultimate challenge of physical and mental strength, testing your will to keep climbing up through fear. Laser Tag, dodging and weaving through our laser war zone striving to eliminate the opposition. Trust Games, challenging our level of trust within ourselves and our team through engaging in a variety of epic physical trust exercises. Scavenger Hunt, unleashing your competitiveness between the 2 teams to see who could complete varied challenges as a whole unit in the given time. Having participated in 2 of the activities for day 1 we concluded the day with some free time. Your chance to use our volleyball court, basketball court, playground, and many types of sports equipment.
Day Two was now underway, and what an action-packed day we had planned for you! Your morning started off with a delicious breakfast followed by an intentions session with Logan, getting us thinking about who we wanted to BE for the day and making a choice (supportive, brave, kind). We then got straight into the park to get stuck into your 3 activities for the morning. What an epic morning it was! Next, we had some lunch followed but a huge Clap Ball tournament. Congrats to Darcy for winning the tournament with his epic throwing/catching skills. To conclude what was already an epic day you all participated in the Monster Course! Running through mud mixed with obstacles linked with the team to achieve not only the best time but also a closer connection to your fellow peers and teammates. After the first lap we followed it up with a surprise, we told you we were going to do it twice! The ultimate test of resilience, perseverance, and determination. Every one of you students and teachers pushed through the second lap and it was clearly achieved through the support and encouragement you showed for everyone in the group.
Day 3 began with a gratitude session with Logan. Sharing the power of gratitude and its impact on our day. We then got stuck into the last couple of activities for the day. Finally, we all voted for our Values winners, the one person in our activity groups who best demonstrated the Five Keys, the person who stood out and stood up. This is when our epic surprise was revealed. We got to watch our incredible WW2 tank go for a hot lap whilst our Values winners got to take a first-class seat in the tank! What an epic way to finish camp.
Thanks for joining us on this epic journey, you were all legends!
Keep unleashing your greatness!
