Newmark Primary School Year 5 & 6 Camp Blog

What a fantastic week at The Summit with Newmark Primary School! From the moment we met you, we knew it was going to be an amazing experience. We also knew we were going to have our hands full with the energy Atticus and Torben were providing alone, but we were more than ready for it.

Our first interaction was to introduce ourselves and give you some introduction to The Summit with a video, the Five Keys of Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If, and our Target, Stretch, Supers Stretch information which everyone on camp so epically lived by.

We then broke into three groups, Cheesy Spooder Sloths, BTR, and The Goats, and tackled some Initiatives, doing brilliantly at Tiles, Go Go Stop, and Key Punch.

Flying Fox, Abseiling and Snake and Nails were our first full activities, and with so many fears faced with Mitch alone, the students knew they were in for an awesome few days. We then moved back up to the Stadium to cement our tribes with a flag, a secret handshake, and a chant created by each group.

Wednesday night the teachers set up a campfire for the kids with marshmallows, and from all reports, it was an awesome night even though there were a lot of bleary eyes the next morning.

Thursday Mim had a chat with us about intentions before we did the remaining two rotations of our first three activities, with Anna really confident with holding the snake and Toby nailing (ha!) the nail board, Piia and Torben really stretching themselves on the Flying Fox and Ben and Madeleine doing incredibly in the Abseiling! We then introduced the kids to our next three activities of High Wire, Tash’s Ladder, and the Bush Challenge. Then after lunch was the great unveiling of the team flags and the chant and they were AMAZING! Then we flew down to the park in the rain and embarked on our epic Monster Course, undoubtedly the highlight of the week.

The students' work on the course was awesome, with everyone working so hard to get each other through it, with Charlotte and Eadie especially showing how resilient they were, and Elai leading valiantly from the front!

On our last day of camp after Lina had a chat with us about gratitude we got to complete our last rotations of High Wire, Tash’s Ladder, and the Bush Challenge with Laak and Zoe dominating the Bush Challenge, Rosie being really brave on Tash’s Ladder and Sabrina making the kids proud on the High Wire!

We then gathered back at the Barbeque Shelter for lunch where we read out all our results and revealed who the kids voted as the people to best represent our values or 5 Keys. Well done to Toby, Theo, and Ben on being voted the Values winners, and thank you all so much for coming to The Summit. Below are your times for all the activities and the Values winners' photos:

From Miriam, Lina, Zoe, Liam, and myself, thank you all for an amazing few days.
