Seabrook PS Year 6 Camp Blog
On the 16th of October some excited year 6’s from Seabrook PS arrived at The Summit eager to start their school camp. Both staff and students were welcomed to The Summit with open arms by their extraordinary coaches Mim, Calarnee, Sam Fish, Sam Pol, Spinks, Logan, Taylor, Liam and Haylea. The students were introduced to The Summit’s values which are the Five Keys (Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots Of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If?) that helped make our camp an epic one.
Starting the camp with a group game and some information on how everyone can stay safe physically and mentally before we got into our awesome activities which were a 23 and a half meters Giant Swing, the dark Cave, an obstacle course called Snowy River Challenge, the terrifying Leap of Faith, the High Wire, the Sbseiling, the fun Scavenger Hunt and Inflatable City. The goal-setting strategy called Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch helped the students push themselves to achieve some extraordinary lengths. By the end of the first day of camp, all groups had a team that would have chosen a team name that they would be called for the rest of camp.
Starting the second day of camp bright and early for a big day ahead of them. Spinks inspired the students about the power of setting a morning intention and having a plan for who they wanted to be for themselves and their teams. After making our way down to the stage we played a game of Rock, Paper Scissors Evolution. This was then followed by 3 rotations of activities before lunch. After the delicious burgers, we had another rotation before the Monster Course. For the course at the time, we believed the winner was the team with the fastest so we all pushed ourselves but then our coaches informed us that the winner instead was the team with the fastest improvement time. The reasoning behind it was to show how strong mentally we all our as we showed resilience and perseverance to get through the second lap.
Sadly, the final day of camp came too soon, this time Sam was inspiring everyone on gratitude and how we should take time to remember the things we can be grateful for. This was then followed by Calarnee running a game of Finger Fencing. Then we had our two final activities of camp. In our last activity, we reflected on all of the camp and picked a values winner from our groups. Finally, at the end of camp, the results were read out and we had to say goodbye to not only our coaches and The Summit but also to our year 6 camp.
