Spensley St PS Year 6 Camp Blog
On the 13th of November, the students from Spencley Street Primary School arrived at The Summit to start their school camp. They were welcomed with open arms by their extraordinary coaches Mim, Liam, Cam, and Sam. The students were introduced to The Summit’s values, the Five Keys which are Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering 'what if'. These keys help the students make the most of their camp and make it an epic one.
The students then played a game of 50 Up, then received some information on how everyone can stay safe physically and mentally. The goal-setting strategy Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch helped them during the activities they would be participating in during the next three days. The first set of activities are Tash’s Ladder, Snowy River Challenge, Bag Blitz and Laser Skirmish. By the end of the first day of camp, all groups had a group that would have chosen a team name that they would be called for the rest of camp.
Starting the second day of camp bright and early for a big day ahead of them. Liam inspired the students about the power of setting a morning intention and getting the students to have the best day as well as having each other held accountable to live up to their morning intentions. The students were also introduced to a new coach, Timmy, who will be on their program. After making our way down to the Stage we played a game of Rock, Paper Scissors Evolution. We had two rotations of the previously stated activities before the students had one rotation of some new activities: Giant Wing, Snake and Nails, Leap of Faith and Sky Bridge before lunch. After the delicious hamburgers, we had another rotation before the mud run aka the Monster Course. For the mud run the teams merged into one, to show that being a united team is better than competing. However, there was another twist about the Monster Course, we learned that the course was about resilience and perseverance as we all were surprised by a second lap after we finished our first. The goal of the mud run was to now improve on the second lap and beat the first lap's time.
Sadly, the final day of camp came too soon, this time Timmy was inspiring everyone on gratitude and how we should take time to remember the things we can be grateful for. This was then followed by Mim running some Summit Aerobics called Get Loose. Then we had our two final activities of camp. In our last activity, we reflected on all of the camp and picked a Values winner from our groups. Finally, at the end of camp, the results were read out and we had to say goodbye to not only our coaches before getting on the bus.
