Upper Yarra Secondary College Blog
On the 23rd of June, The Summit had the year 8s from Upper Yarra Secondary College for their 3-day camp. After arriving and settling into their accommodation the students were introduced to our 5 Keys:
1.Have Fun
2. Play All In
3. Make Lots of mistakes
4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
5. Don't Go Home Wondering What If.
These were going to be our focus for the next three days. With an epic couple of days planned, we got straight into the park, starting the afternoon off with a big group game and an initiative where the students had to work as a team to complete a challenge. It was time for our first lot of activities with 2 rotations planned. Up first were The Cave, Summit Window, Laser Skirmish, The Snowy River Challenge, and The Giant Swing which was a big highlight for a lot of the students. Each activity giving the students an opportunity to push themselves outside of their comfort zones.
With the morning of day 2 already upon us before we headed out into the park, we started our morning off by setting an intention which is simply just a goal on what we wanted our days to look like. It was then time to get our bodies moving with a game of dodgeball to warm us up before we finished off the last of our activities. After lunch, the students were ready to go for the highly anticipated Monster Course. The students were told that they would be racing against the clock to see who could set the quickest time, but after completing the course they were told that the winning team wasn’t the team that ran the quickest but was the team that improved their time the most on the 2nd lap. A massive effort to everyone who finished the course not once but TWICE. Our final day had already arrived and to kick the day off we shared some things in our lives that we are grateful for, it was then time for a big group game of Jockeys, a nice competitive way to start the morning and get our bodies moving.
Our final 2 rotations were some new activities, The Sky Bridge, Snake and Nails, Leap of Faith, Orienteering, and High Wire. These gave everyone the chance to push themselves and watch their comfort zones really grow. At the end of our final rotation, the students voted for one person in their group who they thought lived camp by our 5 Keys. These lucky people were rewarded with a hot lap in our WW2 army tank.
With the buses packed it was time to say goodbye. Cam, Mia, Jac, Centauri, and Steph would like to say a massive thanks to everyone from Upper Yarra Secondary College who came along to The Summit. :)
