Upwey High School Camp 2 Blog

On a hot Wednesday afternoon, the second camp of Upwey High School came through The Summit gates, as the first camp of kids from Upwey jumped on the bus to head back to school, a group of new students we’re getting settled into their accommodation. From there, they’re introduced to the team at The Summit, followed by the Five Keys (Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If.). As they head down to the barbecue shelter, played a game of 50 Up to get kids to move their bodies, a quick initiative with the kids. They were then taught about a goal setting strategy called target, stretch, and super stretch and then shown how to put on a helmet and harness. After their first two activity rotations were completed, they were told about GMICs (great moments in camp).

Day two, they started the day with Spinks presenting morning intentions. The video played and chosen was '20 Things We Should Say More Often' by Kid President followed by focusing on a game of Heads or Tails, reminding them that they can choose how the day is going to go, and if they don’t choose how their day is going to go with an intention, that chance will be chosen for them. Playing a game of Pirates to get their bodies moving, three rotations back to back to back were smashed out. Lunch time and students could relax and after were instructed to get changed for the Monster Course next. As they all reported down to the barbecue shelter, we played a game of Jockeys before getting started with the mud run. Once done not one but two laps of the course, safe to say the students were tired and definitely muddy. They were then told they were going to do the waterslide to rinse off before showers, they were keen!

The final day of camp rolls around and the students were told about gratitude and help with the use of gratitude intention. They can set their day up not only feeling good but also feeling grateful. Once that was done we went down to the barbecue shelter for the last time, where we played a game of Huckle Buckle and completed the last two rotations. Once the two rotations were done we read out our results. We also asked the kids to vote for one of their teammates who had embodied the Five Keys of camp. Well done Ned, Juliet, Caleb, Maddie, and Miles who were treated to a hot lap in The Summit's very own WW2 army tank! How cool is that?!?!

On behalf of The Summit, myself (Sonic/Spinks) and the team: Adam, Emily, Mim and Calarnee we want to say a
