Upwey High School Camp 1 Blog
Monday morning was off and running when your buses rolled in and we prepared for what was going to be an amazing few days. The other coaches and I gathered in the Stadium with them to introduce ourselves and our Five Keys of Have Fun, Play All In, Make Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If, before playing a couple of games and getting into our first round of activities.
The Giant Swing and the Leap of Faith were the instant highlights, the High Wire was challenging and the Cave was scary, while Bush Challenge was just fun. There were definitely many personal boundaries pushed and fears overcome, with too many kids to mention pushing beyond what they first thought they were capable of.
Toward the end of the first day, each group was asked to come up with a name for themselves that was agreed upon by all, and these are the names they came up with;
Grp 1 - Team Dirt
Grp 2 - Jamal
Grp 3 - The Slimy Arnolds
Grp 4 - The Obtuse Moths
Grp 5 - Toddler Tortillas
After an epic Board Break on Monday Night, Tuesday was kicked off with a morning intentions chat from Kid President before getting straight into the activities again.
That afternoon we also embarked on our epic Monster Course, a mud run around the grounds of The Summit involving tyres, charades, mud, cargo nets, holey buckets, dirt, a ball pit, and a whole lot of craziness! The course was scored using each team's improvement time from the first lap to the surprise second lap, with everyone doing amazingly, but being dominated by The Obtuse Moths.
Wednesday started with another chat from Kid President about gratitude before another couple of rounds of new activities, including the very challenging Rock Wall and Sky Bridge, the epic Flying Fox, the risky Snowy River Challenge, and our Inflatable City!
After our last rotation, we asked each of the kids to vote on a Values winner, or the person in their group they felt committed the most to make this a rewarding experience for not only themselves but their whole team. The winners are listed below with all the times for each of the recordable activities. We gathered at the Barbeque Shelter to say our thank you's to all the people involved in making this camp epic before reading out the winners of the various activities.
Times and Values Winners
Thank you so much to the parents, teachers, and students of Upwey High School for an awesome few. You were all so incredibly dedicated to ensuring your camp was an amazing experience. Liam, Spinks, Emily, Sarah, Cam, and I can’t wait to have you back again soon.
