Thornbury PS Years 5 and 6 Camp

On the 12th of March Thornbury Primary School students arrived at The Summit, accompanied by their teachers and helpers, Owen, Raf, James, Robyn, Deb, Joyce, Renee, Kate and Bec. All the students where eager to get into their activities however before they could embark on the three-day journey that was about to happen, they met their enthusiastic and excited coaching team Calarnee, Tim, Sam, Chris, Enis, Taylor and later Matt. Before heading down to the park, the students listened to Sam explain our Five Keys that we believe helps everyone to take their camp from good to great.

These keys are:

After a fun little initiative Cal explain our goal-setting strategy to everyone that consisted of all students learning about a Target, Stretch and Super Stretch that everyone would be using for the remainder of camp.

The students then moved into their first activity at camp which were Rock Wall that saw students climbing to new levels, Summit Window; everyone pushing themselves to the top and above our big tower, Bag Blitz where students climbing Timmay’s Tower to jump out and bear hug a giant punching bag, The Snowy River Challenge where we saw teams working together to cross and balance beam and go over a wall and as an added bonus going into our wombat hole, The Cave which tested our navigational skills in the dark, and Inflatables that saw students competing in human foosball and then running against each other in adrenalin rush.  At the end of our first rotation teams decided on a team name to unify and resemble their team for the duration of camp. After this we then created our team flags that everyone made together consisting of their teams’ name, their team mascot and all their tribe members names.

Starting the second day Cal talked to the group about setting a morning intention and having a clear plan for the day and deliberately deciding how we want to show up for our team and ourselves. After this we ran down to the park where Tim ran us through a game of GET LOOSE and after our bodies where moving we went to our first activity of the day. Day two was a full day completing three activities before lunch. After eating some delicious burgers students headed down the hill to the barbeque shelter where we started our famous Monster Course. With this activity all students believed that the winner was the team with the fastest time, so they ran their lap as fast as they could and they got as muddy as they could, then when they thought they were done and they were wet, tired, muddy we told all students that the WINNER of the course was in fact the team that improves the most from their first lap when we ran the course AGAIN. This showed great levels of resilience and determination. Then everyone finished up and had showers and enjoyed their dinner.

On the final day of camp Tim spoke to everyone about gratitude and appreciating the big and little things in everyday life. Students then completed their final two activities at camp and from that point we finished our camp with a vote for a Values winner which was a tribe member following our Five Keys for the duration of camp voted by their fellow tribe members and then we announced all of the results which you will see below.

On behalf of The summit and coaching team we would once again like to thank you all for playing all in and joining us in having all the fun. All the best for the year.
