Christway College's Year 6 students and teachers arrived at The Summit ready for two action-packed days of adventure, challenge and plenty of fun! After settling into their accommodation, the group gathered in the Lodge, where Coach Spinks (Sonic) welcomed everyone and introduced the coaching team. The students were then let in on The Summit's secret recipe for the best camp ever: the Five Keys!
The Five Keys
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering “What If”
With the Five Keys locked in, the students headed down to the Stage, where Monty and Simon showed everyone how to safely wear their helmets and harnesses. Spinks then introduced an epic goal-setting strategy, Target, Stretch and Super Stretch, to help students grow their comfort zones and tackle challenges head-on.
Activities & Tribe Names
The first challenge was an initiative puzzle that put teamwork, communication and leadership to the test. The teams worked together, problem-solved and rose to the challenge before launching into their first activity rotations.
The students took on:
- Flying Fox
- Bush Challenge
- Bag Blitz
- Laser Skirmish
- Abseil
- Giant Swing
- Rockwall
- Cave
Across the activities, students were challenged to show bravery, teamwork, support, trust, creativity and problem-solving skills. Every challenge was another opportunity to play all in, make mistakes and get comfortable with being uncomfortable!
The day wrapped up with a Summit favourite, GMICs, or “Great Moments In Camp.” Students reflected on the moments they wanted to celebrate, from big achievements to funny moments and courageous breakthroughs.
Day Two – Morning Intention & Monster Energy
Day Two kicked off with an important session on Morning Intention. Students learned about focusing on what they can control: their weather mindset, the people around them and the activities ahead.
The group then warmed up with a game of Jockeys before heading into three activity rotations. After lunch, there was one more rotation before it was time for the challenge everyone had been waiting for…
The Monster Course
The famous Monster Course put the students' teamwork, strength and resilience to the ultimate test.
The teams completed their first lap, completely unaware that a second lap was waiting for them! Once they realised what was happening, they regrouped, dug deep and gave it everything they had.
The winner wasn't simply the fastest team, it was the team that made the biggest improvement between their two attempts.
And what an effort it was! Every team improved by seven minutes or more, showing just how much can happen when you keep pushing, support your team and refuse to give up.
Final Day – Gratitude, Reflection & Tank Time
As the final day rolled around, plenty of GMICs were shared, giving everyone a chance to celebrate the amazing moments from camp.
The students then took part in a gratitude session, reflecting on the people they are thankful for and the experiences they have been lucky enough to share. They were reminded to keep living by the Five Keys, to check back in with themselves and to make sure they never go home wondering “What If.”
Before the final two activity rotations, the coaches got everyone moving with a game of Pirates.
To finish camp, students were asked to vote for someone in their tribe who had best represented and embodied the Five Keys throughout their Summit experience.
Tribe Reflections & Tank Time
The Values Winners showed the true spirit of The Summit: courage, encouragement, teamwork and a willingness to give things a go.
