On a warm, sunny Wednesday, 14th October, the Year 11 students and teachers from Coburg High School rolled through The Summit gates, eager to get going!

After being shown to their accommodation and settling in, everyone was welcomed into the Lodge, where Coach Spinks introduced camp and the coaching team. Coach Canada then shared The Summit's recipe for the best camp ever, with the Five Keys as its ingredients.

    THE FIVE KEYS

    • Have Fun
    • Play All In
    • Make Lots of Mistakes
    • Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
    • Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"

Down at the Stage, Coaches Lucy and Jeff delivered the Helmet and Harness briefing before Coach Ant introduced the Target, Stretch and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, designed to help everyone grow their comfort zones and conquer challenging activities.

Target — what you know you can do.

Stretch — what you think you can do.

Super Stretch — what you think is impossible.

A timed game of Keepy Uppy put the strategy to the test, with the group reaching more than 80 touches by the end!

    ACTIVITIES & TRIBE NAMES

After their first two activity rotations, each group came up with its Tribe Name.

Across the three days, the tribes took on:

    • Abseiling
    • Snowy River Challenge
    • Leap of Faith
    • Summit Window
    • Inflatable City
    • Giant Swing
    • Jump Free
    • High Wire
    • The Cave
    • Laser Skirmish
    • Flying Fox

The ten tribes for camp were:

    • Summit Seekers
    • Super 16
    • MPPS
    • Forcrum
    • Yippie Kayey
    • Bebe's Minions
    • The Full Pipe
    • Yellow Canaries
    • Destiny's Child
    • Tater Totts

The students were also introduced to one of The Summit's favourite traditions: GMICs, or Great Moments in Camp. GMICs are all about writing down and celebrating the awesome moments we see in each other throughout camp.

DAY TWO – INTENTIONS & THE MONSTER COURSE

Day Two started with Morning Intentions, a talk about choosing to focus on the things we can control and the power of our words. Each student then set their own intention for the day.

Down at the park, a game of Jockeys got everyone moving before the tribes jumped straight into three activity rotations. After lunch came one more rotation, then afternoon tea and the safety briefing for one of The Summit's biggest challenges…

    THE MONSTER COURSE

The countdown began and the tribes were off on the legendary Monster Course!

It was a real feat of teamwork, strength and resilience as the students powered through a huge first lap, before the coaches revealed the twist:

The winning team isn't the fastest, it's the team that improves the most on their second run!

Every tribe set a Target, Stretch and Super Stretch for their second lap and headed back out to chase it.

After showers, dinner and an evening activity, the students headed to bed for a well-earned rest.

FINAL DAY – GRATITUDE, HUCKLE BUCKLE & TANK TIME

As the last day rolled around, Coach Lucy ran a gratitude session, asking the students to think about who and what they are grateful for. They were then challenged to "check back in" for their final two activity rotations.

A game of Huckle Buckle on the volleyball court warmed everyone up before the last rotations got under way.

As camp came to a close, every tribe voted for the teammate who best represented the Five Keys throughout camp. These ten legends were rewarded with a hot lap in The Summit's very own Army Tank, cheered on by their peers!

    • The Full Pipe – Moss
