On Wednesday, 7th October, the Year 9 students from Mount Hira College arrived at The Summit to calm skies and an excited team, ready for three days of adventure, challenge, teamwork and plenty of fun!
After settling in, the students were introduced to the Lodge, their home base for meals and downtime throughout camp. It was here that Coaches Lucy, Timmay, Ebony and Christopher introduced themselves and shared The Summit's Five Keys, a set of values to help everyone make the most of their camp experience.
THE FIVE KEYS
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"
With the mindset set, everyone ran down to the main park, where the coaches delivered the Helmet and Harness briefing before introducing the Target, Stretch and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, a simple way to break any challenge into achievable steps and find your own win in every activity.
Target — what you know you can do.
Stretch — what you think you can do.
Super Stretch — what you think is impossible.
ACTIVITIES & TRIBE NAMES
With the groups formed, each tribe kicked off camp with an initiative challenge, putting their problem-solving and teamwork to the test before jumping straight into their first four activities.
Across the three days, the tribes took on:
- Bush Challenge
- Sky Bridge
- Bag Blitz
- Summit Window
- The Cave
- Flying Fox
- Abseil
- Laser Skirmish
The four tribes for camp were:
- Miss Sims Dim Sims
- The Chin Ups
- The Lazy Littles
- Mandemstyle
Day One wrapped up with a quick debrief and a chance for the students to ask any last questions before a well-earned rest.
DAY TWO – INTENTIONS & THE MONSTER COURSE
Day Two opened with Coach Lucy leading a session on the power of intentions and daily goal setting. Everyone shared their own intentions for the day before heading down to the park.
A game of Jockeys got everyone moving before the tribes headed into their activity rotations, with a change of activities halfway through giving every team a fresh round of challenges. After lunch, the groups completed their last rotation of the day.
Then it was time for one of The Summit's biggest challenges…
THE MONSTER COURSE
The students made their way down to the hub to be briefed for the main event: the legendary Monster Course!
Each tribe linked up with one very stubborn extra teammate, a tyre, and raced around the course chasing a fast time. They caught things, pulled things, dodged things and, most importantly, got wet and muddy!
After Lap One, the coaches revealed the twist:
The winning team isn't the fastest, it's the team that improves the most on their second run.
Every tribe showed huge determination and resilience as they headed back out for Lap Two, and each team delivered an amazing second run to finish the day.
Tired and triumphant, the students headed off for well-earned hot showers and dinner, ready for the final day.
FINAL DAY – GRATITUDE, CRANE TIGER EGG & VALUES WINNERS
The final day began with a Gratitude session led by Coach Timmay, encouraging the students to recognise what they have and the people around them.
Everyone then hustled down to the park for one last day of adventure, starting with an epic showdown in Crane Tiger Egg to find the overall champion. The tribes then split up for their final two jam-packed activities.
At the end of their last activity, each tribe voted for the teammate who best lived The Summit's Five Keys and made their team shine.
The group then came together at the Stage for one last lunch, a final debrief and thank-yous, and the long-awaited competition results and values winners, before a final school photo and goodbyes.
🏅 AND THE VALUES WINNERS ARE:
- Miss Sims Dim Sims – Jada
- The Chin Ups – Thalia
- The Lazy Littles – Rayhaan

These students were recognised by their tribes for showing the courage, teamwork and positive attitude that make the Five Keys come alive at camp.
