On Monday, 12th October, the Year 5 students from Southern Cross Grammar arrived at The Summit, ready for three days of adventure, challenge, teamwork and plenty of fun!

Once everyone had settled in, the students were shown around the Lodge, where they would share their meals and downtime across camp. Coaches Lucy, Ebony, Chris and Will then introduced themselves and shared The Summit's Five Keys, the values that help every student get the most out of camp.

    THE FIVE KEYS

    • Have Fun
    • Play All In
    • Make Lots of Mistakes
    • Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
    • Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"

With the Five Keys in mind, the group headed down to the main park for the Helmet and Harness briefing. The coaches then introduced the Target, Stretch and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, which helps students break a challenge into small steps and find their own win in every activity.

Target — what you know you can do.

Stretch — what you think you can do.

Super Stretch — what you think is impossible.

    ACTIVITIES & TRIBE NAMES

The tribes kicked things off with an initiative challenge, working together to solve the problems in front of them, before heading straight into their first four activities.

Across the three days, the tribes took on:

    • High Wire
    • Tash's Ladder
    • Snowy River Challenge
    • Flying Fox
    • Rock Wall
    • Bag Blitz
    • The Cave
    • Scavenger Hunt

The four tribes for camp were:

    • The Ogs
    • The Hustling Bananas
    • Mango Tango Alphas
    • The Highwire Kids

To finish Day One, the coaches ran a quick wrap-up and answered the students' last questions before everyone settled in for the night.

DAY TWO – INTENTIONS & THE MONSTER COURSE

Coach Lucy started Day Two with a talk on the power of intentions and daily goal setting, and everyone shared what they wanted to achieve that day.

Down at the park, a game of Jockeys warmed everyone up before the tribes set off on their activity rotations. Halfway through, the groups swapped to a fresh set of activities, then refuelled with lunch before their final rotation of the day.

Then it was time for one of The Summit's biggest challenges…

    THE MONSTER COURSE

Next, everyone gathered at the hub to be briefed for the main event: the legendary Monster Course!

Every tribe teamed up with one very stubborn extra teammate, a tyre, and took it around the course as fast as they could. There was plenty to catch, pull and dodge, and everyone got wet, muddy and dirty along the way!

Once Lap One was done, the coaches revealed the twist:

The winning team isn't the fastest, it's the team that improves the most on their second run!

The students dug deep and showed real resilience as they headed back out for Lap Two, and every tribe put in a fantastic second run.

Muddy and proud, the students finished the day with hot showers and dinner, ready for the final day.

FINAL DAY – GRATITUDE, CRANE TIGER EGG & VALUES WINNERS

Coach Lucy opened the final day with a Gratitude session, encouraging the students to appreciate what they have and the people around them.

Back at the park, the tribes went head to head in Crane Tiger Egg to find the overall champion, before splitting up for their last two activities.

After their final activity, each tribe voted for the teammate who best lived The Summit's Five Keys and made their team shine.

Everyone then gathered at the Stage for a last lunch together, a final debrief and thank-yous, and the competition results and values winners. A final school photo and some goodbyes brought camp to a close.

🏅 AND THE VALUES WINNERS ARE:

    • The Ogs – Taylor
    • The Hustling Bananas – Amelia
    • Mango Tango Alphas – Sia
    • The Highwire Kids – Levi

These students were recognised by their tribes for showing the courage, teamwork and positive attitude that make the Five Keys come alive at camp.
