On Wednesday 5th August, the Year 9 students and teachers from Truganina College arrived at The Summit full of excitement and ready to embrace every challenge ahead. After settling into their accommodation, everyone gathered in the Lodge where Coach Spinks (Steph) warmly welcomed the group and introduced the coaching team. It wasn't long before the adventure began, with students discovering that the next few days would be filled with courage, teamwork, laughter, and plenty of unforgettable memories.
The Five Keys
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering 'What If'
Activities & Tribe Names
With the Five Keys setting the tone for camp, the group headed down to the Stage where Coach Raylee demonstrated how to safely wear helmets and harnesses before Coach Timmay introduced everyone to our Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy. Students were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and celebrate every win along the way.
The first activity rotations included:
- Giant Swing
- High Wire
- Snowy River Challenge
- Cave
Each activity encouraged bravery, teamwork, communication, trust, creativity, and problem-solving as students supported one another through every challenge.
As the day came to a close, everyone was introduced to one of The Summit's favourite traditions, GMICs (Great Moments In Camp), where students recognised the special moments they had experienced throughout the day. After dinner, Coach Canada and Coach Stevie hosted a fast-paced and hilarious trivia night, providing the perfect way to finish an action-packed first day.
Day Two — Intention & Monster Energy
Day Two began with Coach Timmay leading a Morning Intention session, encouraging everyone to focus on the things they could control and think about how they wanted to show up throughout the day.
After a fun game of Jockeys to get everyone moving, students tackled another series of exciting activities, including:
- Jump Free
- Abseil
- Laser Skirmish
- Inflatables
With confidence continuing to grow, students embraced every challenge before preparing themselves for one of The Summit's biggest highlights.
The Monster Course
After afternoon tea, it was finally time for the legendary Monster Course.
This muddy obstacle course demanded teamwork, resilience, determination, and plenty of encouragement from every tribe member. After completing the first lap, students discovered there was a surprise waiting for them, a second lap!
Rather than rewarding the fastest team, the competition celebrated the team with the greatest improvement between laps. Every single team improved by more than ten minutes, proving just how much they had learned about working together and never giving up.
That evening, everyone enjoyed a well-earned movie night with freshly popped popcorn while watching Shrek, the perfect way to relax after such a huge day.
Final Day — Gratitude & Goodbyes
Although there were a few tired faces on the final morning, the energy quickly returned as Coach Spinks led a powerful Gratitude and Intention session. Students reflected on who they wanted to be during their final day together, who they were grateful for, and were encouraged to finish camp without going home wondering 'What If.'
A lively game of Rock, Paper, Scissors Chant got everyone smiling before the final activity rotations wrapped up an incredible few days at The Summit.
Tribe Reflections & Tank Time
Before departing, each tribe voted for the person who best embodied The Summit's Five Keys throughout camp. These students consistently encouraged others, stepped outside their comfort zones, and demonstrated outstanding teamwork.
As a reward, each Values Winner received their very own Summit medal and enjoyed a thrilling hot lap around the track in The Summit's iconic World War II Army Tank.
