On Monday 23rd February, the Year 7 students from Emerald Secondary College rolled through The Summit gates with a bus full of excitement, curiosity, and a little bit of nervous energy. After settling into their accommodation, the group met their incredible coaching team—Mim, Spinks, Cal, Summer, Ant, and Canada—who were ready to guide them through an unforgettable camp experience packed with challenge, growth, and plenty of fun.
Before launching into the adventure, the students were introduced to The Summit’s secret recipe for an amazing camp—the Five Keys.
The Five Keys
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’
Students were also introduced to The Summit’s powerful goal-setting strategy: Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch. This approach encourages students to break big challenges into achievable steps—starting with something they know they can do, pushing toward something they think they can do, and finally reaching for something that might seem impossible.
With that mindset in place, it was time to dive into the action.
Activities & Tribe Names
The first day saw students jumping straight into some of The Summit’s most thrilling activities. Across their rotations they experienced:
- Giant Swing
- Snowy River Challenge
- Sky Bridge
- Abseiling
- Cave exploration
- Leap of Faith
- Laser Skirmish
Each activity challenged the students in different ways—whether it was teamwork, courage, balance, or trust.
By the end of the first day, teams also had the chance to get creative and come up with their own Tribe Names, building identity and team spirit within their groups.
Day Two – Intention & Monster Energy
Day Two began bright and early with Coach Mim leading a powerful session on starting the day with intention. Students reflected on how they wanted to show up for the day ahead—reminding them that they have the power to choose their mindset, effort, and attitude.
With that energy set, the groups rotated through three activities and prepared for one of the biggest challenges of camp.
The Monster Course
The legendary Monster Course tested resilience, teamwork, and determination.
Teams raced through mud pits, obstacles, and challenges together—but the twist was that the real winner wasn’t the fastest team. Instead, victory went to the team that showed the biggest improvement between their first and second laps.
The second lap pushed everyone to dig deeper, proving that they were capable of far more than they initially thought. Mud-covered and exhausted, the students crossed the finish line with huge smiles and a real sense of accomplishment.
Final Day – Gratitude & Goodbyes
Before the final activities began, Coach Spinks led a meaningful discussion on gratitude, encouraging students to reflect on the people and opportunities in their lives that they are thankful for.
The group then headed down to the airfield for a fun and energetic game of Finger Fencing, where plenty of laughs were shared before the final rotations of camp.
As the experience came to a close, each group voted for a Values Winner—someone who best embodied The Summit’s Five Keys throughout the camp.
🏅 Values Winners:
- Team Powell – Macey
- Sharp Shooters – Noah
- The Flying Ducks – Copper
- Summit Senders – Harrison
- Gigglenorts – Hayden
- Smith’s Chips – Bec
These students showed incredible leadership, courage, and support for their teammates across the three days.
