On Wednesday, 21st October, the Year 4 students and teachers from St Agnes Primary School rolled into The Summit under calm afternoon skies, full of excitement for the three days ahead!
Once bags were dropped off, the students got to know the Lodge, where they would share their meals and downtime throughout camp. Coaches Lucy and Mim then introduced themselves and shared The Summit's Five Keys, the values that help everyone make the most of their camp.
THE FIVE KEYS
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"
Next, everyone raced down to the main park for the Helmet and Harness briefing, followed by the Target, Stretch and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, a great way to tackle each challenge one step at a time.
Target — what you know you can do.
Stretch — what you think you can do.
Super Stretch — what you think is impossible.
ACTIVITIES & TRIBE NAMES
Split into their tribes, the students warmed up with a group initiative challenge that got them thinking, problem-solving and working as a team, before heading off to their first four activities.
Across the three days, the tribes took on:
- Rock Wall
- Bush Challenge
- Orienteering
- Leap of Faith
- Flying Fox
- Laser Skirmish
- Tash's Ladder
- Scavenger Hunt
The two tribes for camp were:
- Flying Dwarves
- Slay Queen Baddies
The first day finished with a quick wrap-up and a chance for the students to ask any questions before bed.
DAY TWO – INTENTIONS & THE MONSTER COURSE
Coach Mim opened Day Two with a talk on the power of intentions and setting a goal for each day, and the students shared their own intentions before heading to the park.
A warm-up game of Get Your Body got everyone moving, then the tribes dived into three big activity rotations. A fresh set of activities after the halfway mark kept the day full of new challenges, and after lunch came one final rotation.
Then it was down to the Hub to get ready for one of The Summit's biggest challenges…
THE MONSTER COURSE
With a tyre in tow as their most stubborn teammate, each tribe tackled the legendary Monster Course, catching, pulling and dodging their way around while getting gloriously wet and muddy!
Once the first lap was done, the coaches shared the twist:
The winning team isn't the fastest, it's the team that improves the most on their second run!
Both tribes showed real grit and dug deep for an impressive second lap to finish the day.
Hot showers and dinner followed, and everyone was ready for a good night's sleep before the final day.
FINAL DAY – GRATITUDE & CRANE TIGER EGG
Coach Lucy began the final day with a Gratitude session, inviting the students to think about what they are thankful for and the people around them.
At the park, a showdown of Crane Tiger Egg found the overall champion, before the tribes set off for their last two activities.
To finish their final rotation, each tribe voted for the teammate who best lived the Five Keys and helped their team shine.
The group then came together at the Stage for one last lunch, a debrief and thank-yous, followed by the competition results, the Values Winners and a school photo.
🏅 AND THE VALUES WINNERS ARE:
- Flying Dwarves – Marina
- Slay Queen Baddies – Audrey
These students were recognised by their tribes for showing the courage, teamwork and positive attitude that make the Five Keys come alive at camp.
