On Monday, May 19th , The Summit was buzzing with excitement as the eager and adventurous students of Alberton Primary School rolled in, ready to take on a three-day journey packed with fun, challenges, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
Day One — Stretching Comfort Zones
After settling into their accommodation, students met their incredible coaching team: Cal, Mim, Enis, and Matt . The team introduced students to The Summit’s Five Keys , our guide for turning a good camp into a truly life-changing one:
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’
After a group game of 50 Up , students learned about the Target, Stretch & Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, helping them break down challenges, face fears, and grow outside their comfort zones.
Then, it was straight into activities:
- Flying Fox : Students soared above the lake with courage and laughter.
- Orienteering : Teams put their navigation skills to the test in a fast-paced scavenger hunt.
- Tash’s Ladder : A vertical adventure to a bird’s-eye view of The Summit.
- The Cave : A test of nerve and teamwork in the dark, underground maze.
After two action-packed rotations, students enjoyed chicken schnitzels and chocolate cake , a massive hit! With full bellies and tired legs, they headed to bed, and most were fast asleep in no time.
Day Two — Intention, Adventure & Mud!
Tuesday kicked off with ham and cheese croissants before Mim led a session on morning intentions , reminding students that small actions can make a big difference . After watching the “Let’s Laugh More” video, we played Crane, Tiger, Egg to get the energy up before launching into more activities:
- Bag Blitz : Students climbed Timmy’s Tower and jumped to grab the bag.
- Scavenger Hunt : Costumes, chaos, and laughs, especially with Matt rocking a pretty dress !
- Snake & Nails : Students got up close with Hercules the black-headed python and walked across a bed of nails.
- Bush Challenge : Mud walls, foam pits, memory games, and teamwork galore.
After lunch, it was time for the famous Monster Course , a muddy, messy, memory-making challenge of epic proportions. The older students showed true grit and resilience as they completed not one, but two laps , pushing themselves and supporting each other every step of the way.
Dinner was well-earned with pasta and garlic bread , followed by a fun evening activity run by the teachers.
Day Three — Gratitude, Dancing & Epic Finishes
Wednesday began in the best way possible: pancakes for breakfast ! After that, Coach Elena got everyone moving with an energetic dance party , even showing off her backflip skills to everyone’s amazement.
Then Cal spoke about gratitude , encouraging students to appreciate the small and big things in life. After watching Kid President’s “Hero” video, students reflected on the heroes in their own lives. A final warm-up game of Repeat After Me got bodies moving and smiles beaming before wrapping up with the last two rotations.
To cap off camp, each tribe voted for a Values Winner , a student who embodied the Five Keys throughout the camp experience. These legends were rewarded with a hot lap inside The Summit’s WWII Army Tank , a massive highlight!
Coaches’ Highlights
Here are just a few special moments that stood out to the coaching team:
Enis : “Amber on the Monster Course, her team stood by her side and didn’t stop cheering until she conquered the cargo net. It was inspiring.”
Mim : “Watching Olive bravely tackle the cave, then being embraced and celebrated by her whole team, it was pure magic.”
Cal : “Seeing Jye conquer the Flying Fox and hearing his team cheer from across the lake gave me goosebumps.”
Matt : “Tash’s Ladder was full of courage. Rikki climbed the inside tower, and Shyla, who was terrified, pushed through her fears. It was incredible.”
Elena : “The breakfast dance party and the group hug I got from all the kids, it absolutely made my day.”
