    Bayside Christian College Year 11Camp

    April 2025

    Back to blog

On the second of April, 2025, The Summit opened its gates to the epic school of Bayside Christian College once again, excited for what was to come. First step was emptying out the buses and getting checked into the accommodation before everyone could make it down to the Stadium for an introduction to the camp, the Five Keys and the coaches; Sam, Matt, and Milena.

    The Five Keys are:

    1. Have Fun
    2. Play All In
    3. Make Lots of Mistakes
    4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
    5. Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”

After the quick introduction, the next stop was the BBQ shelter down in the park where we split into our three activity groups before beginning two sets of initiatives. Group one stuck with Sam, two with two, and three with Milena, rotating between Tiles, Treasure, and Half Pipe. The next step included some afternoon tea and then a quick demonstration of the harnesses, and our goal-setting strategy of Target-Stretch-Super Stretch, before moving on to our first rotation of activities for camp. This was the start of the first set of rotations that would include Rock Wall, Snowy River Challenge, and Trust Games. Once over, we assembled back at the BBQ shelter to find out what was in store for the rest of the day, including dinner, free time options, and GMIC’s or Great Moments in Camp (The Summit’s way of sharing compliments and celebrating achievements).

Day two started with a morning discussion about intentions, how to set a goal for the day and how to achieve that, before heading down to the BBQ shelter for a group game of Jockeys so we could be in a state ready for the next three rotations. The last of the three is part of a new set, including Jump Free with Sam, Snake and Nails with Matt, and the Cave with Milena. Next up was lunch, with some time to get ready for the Monster Course before we all gathered back down to the BBQ shelter for a Tug-Of-War, teams against teams, hyping us up for the Monster Course, where everyone went through 15 obstacles, beginning with the Holy Buckets, then continuing through Charades, Tarp Catch, Sleds, Tyre Overs, Squeeze, and Unders, A-frame, Ball Puzzle, Big Cargo, Snowy Cargo, Brucey, Ball Pit, Barbed and Dangerous, to then finishing with Mud Mounds , only to be told they’re doing it again! The Monster Course is about resilience, and that’s not something you gain by doing what you can, it’s by having already done all you can, then having more asked of you, and pushing through. Which everyone did, and by improving their lap times while at it. After which some well-deserved showers were had, and dinner was soon to follow.

Day three wasn’t as jam-packed, starting with a chat about gratitude with Matt, and how simple it can be to recognise what we already have, before heading down to the park for a game of Pirates and then two final rotations, finishing off what we had not done the days prior. After these rotations, it was time to wrap things up with a few honorary thank-yous and results over lunch, before some photos and final goodbyes. At this time we also recognised a few certain people. At the end of the last rotation, the teams voted for the individual in their groups who they believed performed the best, contributed to their teams the most, lived the Five Keys more than any other, who was the individual who represented the amazing effort everyone had put into the camp.

    The Values winners were:

    1. Brandan from the Apex Predators
    2. Ollie V from the Fluffy Unicorns
    3. Brianna from the John Porkers

For the other results, Snowy River Challenge ended up with:

    1. John Porkers 6:16
    2. Fluffy Unicorns 14:31
    3. Apex Predators 28:18

    Monster Course Improvement Times:

    1. Apex Predators 16:46
    2. Fluffy Unicorns 14:48
    3. John Porkers 11:17

On behalf of The Summit and its coaches, thank you all again for an amazing camp, for your participation and for joining us in having fun. We hope to see you next year and we wish you all the best for the rest of the year and next!
