On a soggy Monday afternoon , the students of Bentleigh West Primary School arrived at The Summit, bursting with excitement and energy despite the drizzle. Ready to kick off a brand-new adventure, students met with their teachers and Summit coaches at the Lodge, where introductions were made and the stage was set for three days of growth, teamwork, and unforgettable fun.
Setting the Tone: The Five Keys
Camp started with the introduction of The Summit’s Five Keys , the foundation for a great experience:
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’
These values guided every challenge and celebration, helping students to step outside their comfort zones and support one another fully.
Day One — Harnesses, High Wires, and a Whole Lot of Laughs
After playing a quick energizer game of 50 Up , students were introduced to key areas around The Summit and shown how to gear up safely. Thanks to Milena and Lawrie’s harness demo and Sam’s intro to our Target, Stretch, Super Stretch goal-setting method, students were ready to dive into their activity rotations.
Here’s what they got up to:
- Snowy River Challenge
- Giant Swing
- Orienteering
- Rock Wall
- Inflatables
- Scavenger Hunt
- High Wire
- Laser Skirmish
To finish the day, students learned about GMICs (Great Moments In Camp) , a way of writing and sharing heartfelt compliments. After some free time and dinner, the energy was high and spirits even higher!
Day Two — Intention, Resilience, and Mud (So Much Mud)
After breakfast, Coach Adam led a session on setting daily intentions , showing students how a clear focus can shape the day’s outcome. They played a hilarious round of Chicken Jockeys , warming up before facing three more activities and then the main event: The Monster Course .
The Monster Course was no ordinary obstacle run. Students tackled:
- Holy Buckets
- Charades
- Tarp Catch
- Sleds
- Ball Puzzle
- Big Cargo
- Ball Pit
After one lap, students were told… you guessed it … “Let’s go again!”, proving they had what it takes to dig deep and show true resilience and teamwork . The winner wasn’t the fastest team, but the one that improved the most from lap one to lap two.
For those who still weren’t muddy enough (somehow!), our mud mounds were the perfect finishing touch. After showers, dinner, and a well-earned rest, day two wrapped up.
Day Three — Gratitude, Reflection, and One Final Challenge
Wednesday morning brought tired but proud faces. Coach Spinks led a recap session, diving into a powerful tool for shaping our mindset: Gratitude . Students reflected on what, and who, they were grateful for, then listened to a round of GMICs to mark their final day at camp.
With only two more rotations , students gave it their all one last time. Afterward, they joined their tribes to reflect on camp using the Rock, Stick & Leaf strategy:
- What rocked?
- What will stick with you?
- What will you leaf behind?
Finally, each group voted for a Values Winner , someone who truly embodied the Five Keys during camp.
And the Values Winners Are:
- Stealthy Stalkers , Kiaan
- Survivors of the Summit , An
- Happy People , Cicilia
- PFUDR (Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing on Rainbows) , Max
- Pineapples in Pajamas , Benson
- Chicken Jockeys , Harry
- Starving Slayers , Lucas
- Torture Legacy , Eva
To celebrate their effort and example, these legends received the ultimate reward : a hot lap in The Summit’s Army Tank , while everyone else watched the tank crush a car!

From all of us at The Summit: Keep making mistakes. Keep being uncomfortable. Keep wondering “what if” just a little less. We hope to see you again soon.
