    Back to blog

On a brisk Wednesday afternoon, 13 August 2025, the Year 9s from Brighton Secondary College rolled through The Summit gates buzzing with energy and ready to play all in. After checking into their cabins, the crew gathered in the Lodge where Coach Spinks (Steph) and the coaching team set the tone for an unforgettable camp. Mim shared The Summit’s recipe for the best camp ever, and we were off!

    The Five Keys

    1. Have Fun
    2. Play All In
    3. Make Lots of Mistakes
    4. Get Uncomfortable
    5. Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’

    Activities & Tribe names

Harnesses fitted and goals set (Target → Stretch → Super Stretch), the tribes launched into their rotations and chose their team identities.

Activities included: Abseil, Flying Fox, Bush Challenge, Leap of Faith, Orienteering, Inflatables, Rock Wall.

    Tribe Names: P’s Knees

    FTG

    Pink Fluffy Unicorns

    Mishas Minions

    Cobras

    Stretched Out

    Sneaky Gollum

    Day One — Launching In

After a safety brief with Chris and Lucy, Sam introduced the Target/Stretch/Super Stretch strategy to help everyone push their comfort zones one smart step at a time. Tribes dove into their first two activity rotations, settled into the flow of camp, and were introduced to a favourite Summit tradition: GMICs (Great Moments in Camp) , a chance to write down and celebrate the wins, courage, and kindness we spot in each other.

Day Two — Intention, Grit & Monster Energy

We kicked off with a Morning Intention session, focusing on choosing our attitude, effort, and how we show up for our tribe. A quick game of Jockeys got bodies moving, then it was straight into three legendary rotations before lunch and one more after.

The weather threw us a few cheeky curveballs, but Brighton powered through, goal after goal, smile after smile. Before the big one, tribes revved up with mini-challenges: Tic-Tac-Toe, Volleyball, Shoe Bowling, and Ga-Ga Ball. And then…

    The Monster Course

After afternoon tea and a safety brief, the countdown began and the teams launched into the famous Monster Course, mud, teamwork, and massive heart. The twist? It’s not about being the fastest on Lap 1; it’s the biggest improvement on Lap 2 that crowns the champions. With fresh Target/Stretch/Super Stretch times, every tribe dug deeper and came home stronger.

Warm showers, dinner, and a fun evening activity capped off a huge day.

Final Day — Gratitude & Strong Finishes

We started with a whole lot of GMICs (there were heaps!) before Coach Sam led a gratitude session, reflecting on who and what fills our cup. After a quick Lodge warm-up game of Heads & Tails, tribes headed out for the final two rotations, finishing camp on a high.

Before we said goodbye, each tribe voted for the person who best lived the Five Keys all camp long. These legends earned a hot lap in The Summit’s Army Tank while their mates cheered them on, what a send-off!
