On Monday, 26th October, the Year 8 to 12 students and teachers from Emerson School arrived at The Summit, ready for three days of adventure, teamwork and fun!
The group met their coaches, Spinks and Simon, in the Lodge, where they watched an introduction video on The Summit's Five Keys to a great camp.
THE FIVE KEYS
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"
Down at the Stage, the coaches delivered the Helmet and Harness briefing before introducing the Target, Stretch and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy.
Target — what you know you can do.
Stretch — what you think you can do.
Super Stretch — what you think is impossible.
ACTIVITIES & TRIBE NAMES
The tribes broke the ice with the Tennis Ball Challenge before heading off to the Flying Fox and Laser Skirmish.
Across the three days, the tribes took on:
- Flying Fox
- Laser Skirmish
- Snowy River Challenge
- The Cave
- Giant Swing
- Inflatable City
- Bag Blitz
- Snakes & Nails
The two tribes for camp were:
- Divas
- Mamas Boy
Before some well-earned free time, the students were introduced to GMICs, or Great Moments in Camp, a chance to give and receive compliments through written notes of encouragement.
DAY TWO – INTENTIONS & THE MONSTER COURSE
After breakfast, Coach Simon led an Intentions session in the Lodge before everyone headed to the Stage for a game of "Where Is George?". The mission: rescue George from Coach Simon, who had kidnapped him and taken him to the other side of the Stage!
The tribes then took on the Snowy River Challenge and The Cave, before joining forces as "Mamas' Divas" for the Giant Swing before lunch.
After lunch came Inflatable City and Bag Blitz, and then it was time for one of The Summit's biggest challenges…
THE MONSTER COURSE
The tribes combined to tackle the legendary Monster Course together, getting wet, muddy and loving every minute of it.
Everyone finished covered in mud but proud of their effort, and with plenty of laughs along the way. The group then relaxed before dinner and a movie to round out a huge day.
FINAL DAY – GRATITUDE, SNAKES & NAILS & FAREWELL
On the final day, Coach Spinks led a gratitude session, asking the students to reflect on the past (the great things they had achieved), the present (checking back in for their last two rotations) and the future (what they were looking forward to at home).
The students also shared gratitude for the people around them, reading out some of the GMICs they had written for each other.
Challenged to "not check out just yet", the group headed to the Stage for a game of Jockeys, before another round of Inflatable City and Bag Blitz.
To finish, everyone came together for Snakes & Nails, walking across a bed of nails and meeting The Summit's resident python, Monty!
Camp wrapped up with a reflection on the best moments of the three days, before each tribe voted for the Hero and the Heart of their group. These four legends were each awarded a medal to remember their time at camp.
🏅 AND THE VALUES WINNERS ARE:
- Divas – Hero: Kai, Heart: Gemma
- Mamas Boy – Hero: Beau, Heart: Tiarnee
These students were recognised by their tribes for showing the courage, teamwork and positive attitude that make the Five Keys come alive at camp.
