When the buses rolled through The Summit gates on a cold but sunny Monday morning, we knew we were in for something special. The energy and excitement radiating from the students of Fitzroy North Primary School was contagious, and it set the tone for an unforgettable week!
Kicking Things Off
Our week began in the Lodge , where the coaches gathered with students to introduce ourselves and share The Summit’s 5 Keys to a world-class camp experience :
- Have Fun , Enjoy the moment and make the most of every opportunity.
- Play All In , Give your best effort in everything you do.
- Make Lots of Mistakes , It’s how we learn and grow!
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable , Push past your limits.
- Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If” , Leave with no regrets.
Activity Highlights
From the very first rotations, students threw themselves into an incredible lineup of activities:
- Giant Swing and Summit Window were instant favorites
- Rock Wall tested everyone’s grit and determination
- Flying Fox delivered thrills soaring over the lake
- Bush Challenge encouraged teamwork and strategy
- Cave offered a thrilling underground experience
- Laser Tag brought out fierce (but fun) competition
We saw fears faced, boundaries pushed, and personal achievements too numerous to count. So many students exceeded their own expectations, we were truly blown away!
Creative Team Spirit
At the end of day one, each group came together to decide on a tribe name that reflected their collective vibe. Here’s what they came up with:
- Group 1 , Aesthetic Cockroaches
- Group 2 , The Prodigies
- Group 3 , Fluffy Pink Unicorns
- Group 4 , Slay Roaches
- Group 5 , Asthmatic Cockroaches
- Group 6 , Rubber Duckies
- Group 7 , Ballerina Jockeys
We wrapped the night with an epic disco , where dancing, laughter, and glow sticks took center stage.
Magical Creatures & Monster Course
Tuesday started with a powerful morning intention , inspired by Kid President , encouraging everyone to approach the day with purpose and positivity.
That afternoon, tribes came together for a creative group challenge, Magical Creatures , tasked with rescuing “creatures” (our teachers and coaches in costume!) and returning them to safety while overcoming obstacles and solving problems along the way. It was hilarious, heartwarming, and a great way to practice empathy and collaboration.
Then came the legendary Monster Course , our muddy, action-packed obstacle course featuring tyres, charades, cargo nets, holey buckets, and of course… mud! Students completed not just one, but two laps , with improvement times used to determine the winning team. A massive shout-out to The Prodigies , who took the win!
Wrapping It Up With Gratitude
Wednesday morning began with a thoughtful discussion on gratitude , a chance to reflect on the people and things we often take for granted.
After one last high-energy game of Pirates , students completed their final activity rotations before we gathered together to reflect and celebrate. Each group voted for a Values Winner , someone who truly embodied the 5 Keys and helped make camp an incredible experience for their whole team.
These standout students earned the ultimate reward: a ride in our World War II army tank , a thrilling victory lap cheered on by their peers!
