On Wednesday, 6th August, the Year 8 students and teachers from Oberon High School arrived at The Summit for their very first camp, bringing plenty of excitement and curiosity for the three days ahead. After settling into their accommodation and enjoying lunch, everyone gathered together to officially kick off an unforgettable adventure.
Team Leader Simon welcomed the group before introducing the coaching team, Canada, Monty, Stevie, Will and Mim. The coaches then shared The Summit's Five Keys, the mindset that would guide every challenge, every activity, and every breakthrough across camp.
The Five Keys
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Uncomfortable
- Don't Go Home Wondering "What If"
Students were then introduced to the Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, encouraging everyone to push beyond what they thought was possible while supporting one another every step of the way.
Activities & Tribe Names
Before heading into their activity rotations, students tackled a series of initiative challenges including Half Pipe, Treasure, Go Go Stop, Tiles, Key Punch and Spider's Web, learning the importance of teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
Throughout camp, students took on an incredible range of activities:
- Jump Free
- Bush Challenge
- Giant Swing
- Laser Skirmish
- Sky Bridge
- High Wire
To finish the day, students were introduced to one of The Summit's favourite traditions, GMICs (Great Moments In Camp), where they recognised and celebrated the positive moments they noticed in others. After dinner and an evening activity, everyone headed off for a well-earned night's sleep.
Day Two — Intention & Monster Energy
Day Two began with Morning Intentions and Gratitude, encouraging students to focus on what they could control and choose how they wanted to show up for themselves and their tribe. After a fun initiative to get everyone moving, the groups launched into another full day of activity rotations, continuing to build confidence and challenge themselves.
The Monster Course
Following lunch and the afternoon activities, it was time for one of the biggest highlights of camp, the legendary Monster Course!
Each tribe attacked the muddy obstacle course with everything they had, believing the fastest first lap would secure victory. Then came the twist, the winning team would actually be the one that improved the most on their second run.
Every team dug deep, embraced the challenge, and pushed through tired legs and muddy obstacles to achieve incredible improvements. The effort, teamwork and determination shown by every student was something to be proud of.
The day wrapped up with dinner, another round of GMICs and a fun evening activity before everyone settled in for the final night.
Final Day — Gratitude & Goodbyes
The final morning began with more GMICs before one last Morning Intentions and Gratitude session. Students reflected on the people and opportunities they were thankful for before heading out to complete their final activity rotation.
Tribe Reflections & Tank Time
To finish camp, each tribe voted for the teammate who had best demonstrated The Summit's Five Keys throughout the three days. These outstanding students were recognised in front of the entire group before earning an unforgettable hot lap in The Summit's World War II Army Tank as their classmates cheered them on.
