On Wednesday 6th of August, The Summit came alive with the arrival of Oberon High School’s Year 8 students, an energetic group ready for three days of courage, challenge, and connection. From the moment they stepped off the bus, their enthusiasm set the tone for an unforgettable camp.

After settling into their accommodations, everyone gathered in the Lodge to meet their coaching team: Calarnee, Sam (Fish), Lucy, Chris, Spinks, Sam, and later Matt and Simon. Together, they introduced The Five Keys, the values that would shape every moment of camp:

The Five Keys

2. Play All In
3. Make Lots of Mistakes
4. Get Uncomfortable
5. Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’

With a fun round of “50 Up” to break the ice, the group learned The Summit’s goal-setting strategy: Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch , a tool for breaking big challenges into achievable steps and pushing beyond perceived limits.

Activities & Team Spirit

From scaling heights to testing focus, the Year 8s took on a huge variety of activities over the three days, including:

• Leap of Faith
• Giant Swing
• Sky Bridge
• High Wire
• Laser Skirmish
• Bush Challenge

The Leap of Faith demanded bravery and trust, the Sky Bridge and High Wire tested balance and determination, Laser Skirmish brought fast-paced teamwork, and the Bush Challenge had students problem-solving their way through the great outdoors.

Day Two — Intention & Monster Energy

Thursday morning began with Spinks leading a powerful session on setting intentions, choosing how to show up for the day and taking control of attitude and effort.

The day’s activities built toward the ultimate test: The Monster Course. In their activity groups, students tackled everything from filling a holey bucket and sled pulls to mud crawls, ball pits, and barbed wire challenges.

But just as they crossed the finish line, the twist was revealed, the course wasn’t over. The real goal was to improve their time on a second lap. This meant digging deep, supporting each other, and proving that when times are tough, we are tougher .

Final Day — Gratitude & Goodbyes

Friday morning, Calarnee invited everyone to pause and reflect on gratitude, focusing on the little things we often take for granted. A round of Jockeys brought smiles before the group launched into their final camp rotations.

Tribe Reflections & Tank Time

At the end of camp, each team voted for a Values Winner, someone who truly embodied The Five Keys throughout their time at The Summit. These legends earned themselves a lap in The Summit’s World War II Army Tank while their peers cheered them on.
