When the bus from Poowong Consolidated Primary School rolled through the gates of The Summit on Wednesday morning, we knew we were in for an amazing few days. The energy and enthusiasm from the students had everyone bouncing off the walls , and we loved it!
The other coaches and I gathered in the Stadium to introduce ourselves and share The Summit’s Five Keys . We kicked things off with a couple of games, demonstrated how to use the harnesses, and explained how to set Targets , Stretches , and Super Stretches . Then it was time to dive into our first round of activities!
The Five Keys are:
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”
The group was split into Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6. The Cave and High Wire activities kicked off the Year 5/6 program, while the younger group created flags during Tribe Identity and played some Initiative Games .
Towards the end of the first session, each group was asked to come up with a name that everyone agreed on , and here’s what they chose:
- Grp 1 , The Fearless Tim Tams
- Grp 2 , Chicken Jockeys
- Grp 3 , The Kookaburras
- Grp 4 , The Summit Fairies
After a bush walk on Wednesday night, Thursday began with a morning intentions chat from Kid President before we jumped straight into the next round of activities. The warm, sunny weather was a great sign that it was going to be another fantastic day. Activities included the Flying Fox , Scavenger Hunt , Tash’s Ladder , Bush Challenge , Bag Blitz , Rock Wall , and another visit to the Cave .
On Thursday afternoon, we took on our epic Monster Course , a mud run around The Summit grounds filled with tyres, charades, cargo nets, holey buckets, dirt, water, a ball pit, and a whole lot of fun! The course was scored by comparing each team’s improvement time between the first lap and a surprise second lap. Everyone did amazingly well, but the course was dominated by the unstoppable Chicken Jockeys !
Friday kicked off with another powerful chat about gratitude from Timmay , with a little help from Kid President . We took a moment to reflect on the families and pets waiting for us back home , and the desire to make them proud by giving our all in the final activity rotations.
For the Year 3/4s, the last rotations included the Flying Fox and Scavenger Hunt , while the Year 5/6s tackled Orienteering and the epic Sky Bridge .
At the end of the day, each student was asked to vote for a Values Winner , someone in their group who best demonstrated The Summit’s Five Keys , making camp a rewarding experience not only for themselves but for their entire team.
The deserving winners , Chayce, Ryan, Layla M, and Oscar , were surprised with a victory lap around the track in a genuine World War II Army Tank !
We then gathered at the BBQ Shelter to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this camp such an incredible experience. We wrapped things up by announcing the winners of the various activities and sharing the recorded times and achievements.
A huge thank you to Seb , the teachers, and all the amazing students of Poowong Consolidated Primary School for an unforgettable week. Your enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication made this camp truly special. We at The Summit loved every moment and can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!
