    Rosebud Secondary College Year 7Camp

    May 2025

    Back to blog

On the stunning afternoon of Monday, 28th April 2025, The Summit welcomed back the students and teachers of Rosebud Secondary College.

As they got off the buses, they were shown to their accommodation. After settling in, the students were welcomed into the lodge, where Coach Spinks gave an introduction to the camp and the coaches. Sam then introduced The Summit’s very own recipe for the best camp ever , the Five Keys of camp.

    These keys are:

    1. Have Fun
    2. Play All In
    3. Make Lots of Mistakes
    4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
    5. Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”

We made our way down to the stage, where we handed the floor over to Matt and Fran. They delivered a helmet and harness briefing, and Mim shared an epic goal-setting strategy to help students grow their comfort zones and conquer challenging activities. The framework included:

    1. Target , what you know you can do
    2. Stretch , what you think you can do
    3. Super Stretch , what you think is impossible

Campers were then divided into their tribes: Tribes 1 to 11.

Group Activities Included: Snake and Nails, Jump Free, Laser Skirmish, Snowy River Challenge, Rock Wall, Summit Window, Leap of Faith, Inflatables, Giant Swing, Bush Challenge, and Flying Fox.

Tribes completed their first two activity rotations and came up with tribe names. Campers were also informed about the dinner and breakfast timings, free time areas, and introduced to a special camp tradition called GMICs , “Great Moments in Camp.” This is all about acknowledging and writing down some of the awesome moments we’ve witnessed together.

Day Two The day began with a talk about setting a morning intention, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the things we can control to make the most of each day , especially at camp.

Down in the park, we kicked off the morning with a game of Pirates before jumping into three legendary activity rotations. Despite the mixed weather, students powered through, smashed goals, and had loads of fun.

After lunch, we powered through one more activity rotation before taking on the famous Monster Course , a feat of teamwork, strength, and resilience. Students completed a huge first lap, only to be surprised by the twist: the winning team wouldn’t be the fastest, but the one that improved the most on their second lap !

Final Day As the last day rolled around, Coach Spinks led a gratitude session where students were asked to reflect on who or what makes them feel truly grateful. This set the tone as everyone “checked back in” for the final two rotations of activities.

To warm up, we played the group game Jockeys , then jumped into our last challenges. As the rotations wrapped up, students were asked to vote for someone in their tribe who best embodied the Five Keys of camp throughout the experience.

These 11 legends received Summit Medals in recognition of their outstanding efforts.

On behalf of the coaches and The Summit team, thank you for joining us and bringing your energy, spirit, and joy to camp. We wish you all the best for the rest of the year!

Spinks, Milena, Adam, Fran, Simone, Elena, Mim, Matt, Enis, Sam, and Chris
