On a brisk Monday afternoon, 4th of August 2025, the Year 9 students and teachers from Sacred Heart Geelong rolled through The Summit gates, ready to kick off three days of adventure, challenge, and connection. After settling into their accommodations, they gathered in the Lodge where Coach Spinks (Steph) introduced the coaching team. Coach Calarnee then revealed The Summit’s secret recipe for the best camp ever, built on the Five Keys:
The Five Keys
- Have Fun
- Play All In
- Make Lots of Mistakes
- Get Uncomfortable
- Don’t Go Home Wondering ‘What If’
With the tone set, the group made their way to the Stage where Matt and Lucy led the helmet and harness briefing. Coach Sam then shared the Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch goal-setting strategy, an approach that would help campers break down challenges and expand their comfort zones.
Activities & Tribe Names
The crew wasted no time diving into their first two rotations. Over the three days, activities included:
- Jump Free
- Summit Window
- Giant Swing
- Flying Fox
- Bush Challenge
- Snowy River Challenge
- Laser Skirmish
- Leap of Faith
- Orienteering
- Cave
- High Wire
- Inflatables
- Rockwall
- Bag Blitz
After the first sessions, each team created their unique Tribe Name, officially becoming a crew. They were also introduced to GMICs (Great Moments In Camp), a fun tradition of recognising and celebrating the standout moments of camp.
Day Two — Intention & Monster Energy
Tuesday began with a powerful session on setting a morning intention, focusing on what we can control and the impact of our words. Inspired by the “Like a Girl” video, students created their own intentions for the day.
A quick, high-energy game of Jockeys got everyone moving before three big activity rotations. Rain or shine, the students embraced the challenge, smashed goals, and played all in.
After lunch, a round of “Huckle Buckle” set the tone for the ultimate challenge, The Monster Course. With the safety brief complete and the countdown on, teams launched into a gruelling first lap, only to discover the winner wouldn’t be the fastest, it would be the team that improved the most on their second lap. With their Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch times in mind, every tribe pushed harder, dug deeper, and proved just how resilient they could be.
Final Day — Gratitude & Goodbyes
Wednesday morning began with a mountain of GMICs being read aloud, celebrating the epic moments from the week. Coach Sam then led a Gratitude session, encouraging students to reflect on the people and moments that made them feel grateful. A fun game of Heads and Tails in the Lodge got everyone smiling before the final two rotations of camp.
Tribe Reflections & Tank Time
Before heading home, each tribe voted for one member who truly embodied the Five Keys throughout camp. These legends earned themselves a hot lap in The Summit’s very own Army Tank, cheered on by their peers:
