On Monday 1st September, the Year 5s and 6s of South Yarra Primary School rolled through The Summit gates, buzzing with excitement for an epic three-day adventure. Day One — Launching into Camp
After checking into their accommodation, the group gathered at the Lodge to meet their coaches and learn about the Five Keys. With Target, Stretch, Super Stretch as their goal-setting guide, students set off for their first activities. To wrap up the day, they gathered at the Stage where Coach Sam introduced GMICs (Great Moments In Camp) , a Summit tradition of sharing affirmations and celebrating teammates .
Day Two — Intentions & The Monster Course
The morning began with intentions in the Lodge, inspired by Kid President’s messages about positivity. A quick game of Heads or Tails got everyone moving before diving into three activity rotations.
The afternoon brought the much-anticipated Monster Course , seven muddy obstacles, teamwork, and resilience on full display. Just when they thought it was over, students discovered they’d be running it twice, with the winner decided by biggest improvement time! Before the course, a fun twist had everyone working together to round up “escaped mystical creatures” scattered around camp, a surprise challenge that required problem-solving and team spirit .
Final Day — Gratitude & Reflection
By Day Three, the Lodge was filled with tired but grateful faces. The morning’s Gratitude session included GMICs, Kid President’s reflections, and students sharing their own thankfulness. A high-energy game of Jockeys followed before the final two activity rotations.
To close camp, each team shared their Rock, Stick & Leaf reflections:
- A Rock , something that rocked about camp
- A Stick , something they’ll take with them
- A Leaf , something they’re ready to leave behind
Finally, tribes voted for their Values Winners , recognising the teammates who lived the Five Keys all camp long .
