Star of the Sea Year 11 & 12Camp

On the 2nd of April, the Star of the Sea students arrived at The Summit ready for their three-day camp. Once the students settled into their accommodation, they were introduced to the coaches Mim and Lucy. Lucy then quickly talked to them all and presented them to The Summit’s values which are the Five Keys. These keys are:

The Five Keys are:

2. Play All In
3. Make Lots of Mistakes
4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
5. Don’t Go Home Wondering “What If”

Heading down into the park to get the camp started, we first started with an initiative called Spider’s Web. This initiative aims to help everyone get from one side of the web to the other. The students did well on this initiative and then Mim introduced them to a goal-setting strategy called Target, Stretch, and Super Stretch which helped the students improve on the Spider’s Web and beat their time by two-thirds. The initiative then flowed nicely into their first activity which was trust games. The girls’ trust in each other was tested and hopefully, they gained trust in each other when they participated in those games. Shortly after, the girls moved on to the next activity which is called Tash’s Ladder. After, testing their fear of heights, the students moved to the Inflatable City where they played human-size foosball and an inflatable obstacle course. Ending the day with some evening activities run by the teachers which were the night walk and a movie.

Starting the second day of camp, Mim read out some GMICs (Great Moments in Camp) and told the group about the importance of setting a morning intention. For the second day, we divided into two groups for the morning, one group did the Cave with Lucy where they had to go through a dark cave while the second group did the Sky Bridge with Mim where they tested their balance and coordination. We then joined them together again and participated in the Leap of Faith before lunch. Once lunch was finished, we all got competitive in a game of Laser Skirmish, which also hyped up the team for the epic Monster Course. During the course the girls were tested on their teamwork as they had to work together and move as one unit. As a reward to the girls, we opened up the waterside for them before they went and had showers. Once again, the teachers ran some evening activities for them.

Sadly, the final day was upon us, Lucy and Mim read out some more GMICs before heading down into the park for the final time. Starting the day with Abseiling to test their fears one last time. Then the girls’ final activity they participated in was Orienteering, during Orienteering the year 11s went against the year 12s. At the end the year 12s ended up being the winners. And that was the conclusion of the camp.
